When I started transition, almost 14 years ago, I imagined, I had this fantasy, that I would start taking hormones and in a few years, I was gonna blend in and no one would ever know that I was trans. I could just live my life undetected. And I knew a lot of trans folks like that, it was presented as the goal of transitioning.

When I realized that I wasn’t blending in effortlessly, I had to sort of to reevaluate things for myself. I had to begin to think about and I’ve begin to own this transgender thing. It became something that I had to say, "Well, this is who I am." (x)

So excited about what this actress is doing for the transgendered community. She gives a hell of a performance on Orange Is The New Black, if you haven’t seen it. Superb in many ways. YAY!!

“No other actor in TV history has been called on to do the heavy lifting Gandolfini had to do. All those years, all those intricate calibrations of charm and evil, subtly building up the character of Tony Soprano with six seasons of slow-burn menace. It was a marathon feat of long-term detailed storytelling, the kind of thing nobody had attempted. Others followed – Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage, practically the entire cast of Mad Men. But they didn’t have to prove it could be done. That was Gandolfini’s job.”

Weird Stats of the Day: Toddlers killed more Americans than terrorists did this year
Opposing Views brings some frightening (though obviously tongue-in-cheek) statistics about the future of America: more American lives have been claimed by gun fatalities involving American toddlers than terrorist attacks this year. In the past five months, a total of 11 people were killed by preschoolers with firearms compared to the four that perished in the Boston explosions — the only terrorist attack to occur this year. We can only hope the NSA will ramp up surveillance on children less than 5 years of age in order to counter this threat to national security.
